Vinyl shower curtains can quickly accumulate soap scum and mildew, making them look dingy and unappealing.
In this article, I’ll be sharing my top tips on how i clean my vinyl shower curtain with ease, keeping it looking fresh and new.
With just a few simple steps, you can have your vinyl shower curtain sparkling clean in no time.
If you’ve been reading and following my blog for quite sometime now, you would obviously know that I’m that kind of person that love my things natural.
Unnecessary use of chemical substances turns me off.
This is also good for you because most of the the things you’d need to easily clean your Vinyl shower curtains are items you probably already have at home.
Now, stay glued to your device as I walk you through the my methods for cleaning your vinyl shower curtain effortlessly.
First and foremost, what ingredients or supplies do you need?
Ingredients
- Any Laundry detergent
- White vinegar
- 3-4 towels
- A washing machine
Those are the most important ingredients needed! You can decide to add extras like baking soda but i don’t think it’s necessary.
BY using a washing machine, you don’t have to scrub and worry about cleaning with your hands, all you need is to start the laundry cycle with warm water and some detergent.
Steps
- Remove the Shower Curtain
- Wash the Curtain
- Dry and Rehang
Removing the Shower Curtains
Open the shower curtain fully to give you better access for removal. Then slide the curtain rings off the rod, starting from one end and working your way to the other.
Now, gently detach any clips or hooks holding the curtain in place before folding the curtain inwards to prevent water and residue from dripping onto the floor.
Wash the Curtain
Load the washing machine by placing the vinyl shower curtain and the towels into the washer.
Be sure to distribute them evenly to ensure balanced agitation during the wash cycle.
Then start the laundry cycle with warm water and add some laundry detergent plus a cup of white vinegar.
Wash warm, normal (you may want to try delicate if you’re worried, but I didn’t care.)
Dry and Rehang
After the machine washing cycle is complete, it’s time to dry the vinyl shower curtain properly before rehanging it in your bathroom.
If the curtain is still a little bit dirty, you can rearrange the curtain and do a second cycle.
DO NOT put the curtain in dryer. I prefer to air dry the curtain to avoid any potential damage from a dryer, hanging it on a sturdy rod allows it to air out thoroughly.
While the curtain is damp, the next thing to do id smooth out any wrinkles by gently pulling on the material.
This helps it to hang nicely when reinstalled. And once the vinyl shower curtain is completely dry, I rehang it in my bathroom.
I make sure it’s securely attached to the curtain rod to avoid any mishaps.
Tips and Tricks:
- For extra cleaning power, add a half-cup of white vinegar to the wash cycle. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant and helps to remove stubborn stains and mildew.
- Avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals on vinyl shower curtains, as they can damage the material and cause discoloration.
- Regularly cleaning your vinyl shower curtain can help prevent the buildup of stains and mildew, extending its lifespan and keeping your bathroom looking clean and inviting.
